As April came to an end, I realized that my monthly budget is blown to pieces. I got sucked in by Merrie Monarch craft fairs, (which in my defense only come around once a year) buttery soft leggings, detailing supplies for my car (that I probably didn’t need) and more. Granted, I like to think that I’m pretty decent at managing my money. I always make sure to set some aside for savings before spending anything and all my bills are paid on time and in full, but somehow I always manage to justify the extra spending and those splurges really take a toll.

May is here and I’ve decided to embark on a 30 day no-spend challenge! All these impulse purchases I make are wants, not needs and I’m pledging to cut spending throughout the month of May and only shell out money for the things that I absolutely need, and any bills of course. I’m allowing myself minor spending for gifts, since I have a few family members with birthdays and mother’s day coming up, but I’ll definitely be budgeting for those. Sometimes it’s easy to get caught up in the latest trends and hottest items, when in reality all you end up with is more clutter and “things” that sit around without being used. I definitely can confess that I’ve bought clothing I just “needed to have”, and it’s still sitting in my closet with the tags on it. Or what about those nights where it seems to much easier to go through a drive-thru or sit and eat at a restaurant instead of cook? Then as I pay the bill I realize how much cheaper it would’ve been to just eat at home. It happens to even the best of us.

To hold myself accountable I’ll be sharing my journey with updates to the blog every week. While I don’t doubt it’ll be difficult, I’m up for the challenge!
